About Spenborough Amateurs
The History of SAODS

At the end of the First World War, a group of people in the St John's Amateurs Operatic Society formed the Cleckheaton and Spenborough Operatic Society.

St John's Amateur Operatic Society was based at the Parish Church, whose President was Reverend C. S. Newell.

Their premier performance was Aladdin and Out in 1918. Since then, with the exception of two World Wars, the Society has performed at least one show every year, and donated thousands of pounds to charity.

Times have changed and the Society now performs more modern plays and musicals, and of course the ever popular Christmas Carol Concert.
